WELCOME

Perth & District Horticulture Society (PDHS), now 40 years old, represents and supports the needs of our many novice, serious and devoted gardeners who beautify our community and lend a helping hand to nature’s masterpiece.

HISTORY

The PDHS was originally formed in April of 1901 with the first speaker being Dr. Fletcher of the Ottawa Experimental Farm. The first recorded President was Rev. A.H. Scott, the Minister of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. PDHS had a membership of more than 80 people and met continuously up until the Second World War when it went into retirement.

In 1984 several Perth residents, Gordon Bothwell and Peter McMahon being a couple of them, were instrumental in forming a new horticultural society and it has been thriving since that time. Peter McMahon, Alan Roberts and Ken Willis were early Presidents and were instrumental in encouraging local gardeners to take part in the Executive and to help with the community plantings, as well as forming a Junior Gardeners program in several area schools.

PLANT SALE

The PDHS plant sale returns again this year. Mark your calendars – Saturday, May 18th at Crystal Palace in conjunction with the Perth Farmer's Market. We will be there from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
